Shannon Cusack, LISW-S
Hi there! I’m an independently licensed social worker who has worked in mental health for almost 20 years. My background is in providing mental health assessment, treatment planning, and therapeutic interventions in a variety of settings including medical, educational, addiction, and community mental health.
I enjoy working with a wide variety of clients; from young adults navigating school, career, relationships, and identity to older adults seeking to utilize their age-earned strengths and talents. I especially enjoy working with those new to counseling. If you are dealing with depression or anxiety, life transitions, or struggling with being your most authentic self, I can help.
I primarily use a solution-focused CBT model because changing your thoughts and behaviors impacts your feelings and helps you move forward and achieve your goals. One of the most important predictors of positive outcomes in counseling is rapport within the client-therapist relationship. I’m body-positive and queer affirming. I pride myself on being approachable, non-judgmental, and empathetic.
In our first session, we’ll talk about your history with mental health treatment, and what’s worked for you and what hasn’t worked for you in the past. We’ll also talk about what therapy is and isn’t and what your expectations are. We’ll get to know each other a bit, talk about what’s bringing you for services currently, and identify some goals for the process.
I’m passionate about helping people achieve their goals and be their best selves. Outside of behavioral health, I enjoy reading fiction, live bands in small venues, and the company of my family including my rescue dogs.
